About us
Troop 121 is sponsored by Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lower Burrell, PA. We are part of the Japeechen District of the Laurel Highlands Council. Lower Burrell is part of the Alle Kiski Valley and is located about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest and most prominent value-based, faith-based youth development organizations, not just in the United States, but in the world! In Troop 121, we want to reach as many youth as possible and we strive to keep our program as close to what founder Lord Baden Powell wanted the Scouting program to be. We provide a program for our Scouts that builds character, teaches responsibility and leadership, citizenship and develops self-confidence, self-reliance and personal fitness. Our troop program focuses on three things:
1) Challenge - We believe our Scouts grow through challenge. We are not just about
camping like some troops! Our program consists of a variety of activities that includes
climbing, canoeing, hiking and oh yes...almost forgot...camping! Our #1 rule (besides safety) is in everything we do is
it has to be FUN!
2) We do not want to be just a boy-led troop like most troops, but we are rather a Boy-Owned troop, adult supervised,
adult mentored, but boy-led. We believe this is the most critical element that a Boy Scout Troop needs to be
successful.
3) Advancement. Our advancement program is a fast paced, multi-leveled program that gives our Scouts an opportunity
to not only advance in rank with the normal Scouting program, but to grow as individuals and to become the best
young adults they can be. We offer a wide variety of not only awards from within the Scouting program, but many
coveted and prestigious awards outside of the Scouting program.
So how does everything sound so far? If our program sounds good to you, we encourage you to either come for a visit and see for yourself or just go to the "Join Us" page of our website and go from there. It's that simple and we would love to hear from you!
And oh, one last thing...NO PREVIOUS SCOUTING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED!
